La Marzocco 2 Group Linea AV overhaul

Part 2

The boiler mounts inside the frame. You want something a little different?  Here you go.  These are
the mounts that the boilers are resting on and fixed too.  They
do get grubby and dusty.

I was playing around with different metal patterns....that is the
steam boiler autofil solenoid.
After cleaning and polishing.
Inside the group. Inside the groups was very much what I had expected with some
mild scale build-up.  The groups were soaked in warm citric for
a day or so, any longer and their nickel plating comes off.
The finished group ready for reassembly.
Underside of the group covers. Inside the groups was very much what I had expected with some
mild scale build-up.  The groups were soaked in warm citric for
a day or so, any longer and their nickel plating comes off.

Sometimes if you are in a jam you can get away with reusing
gaskets - not with the group cover o-ring though.  That is a one
shot deal.
Group covers cleaned and with new gaskets (viton and paper)
One very grotty brew boiler and gasket. The water mark gives it away that it had been leaking. Let me try and show you the brew boiler.  The flange gasket
between the group and the boiler is tricky, this one a silicone
rubber has now been abandoned in favour (again) of the Novus
Supra ones.

The paper ones seem to last longer than the silicone ones.
Boiler cleaned and new gasket installed.
The brew boiler with both groups removed. After I removed the nuts holding the group to the boiler the
groups still would not come off.  Even gentle tapping with a
wooden mallet didn't seem to work.  In the end I had to very
carefully pry with a small screwdriver in the space with the
gasket.  You have to be careful not to damage the boiler or the
brass and not to break the studs.
Descaled, cleaned and polished.
Boilers before. Once I have put the groups back onto the boiler (which it self is
a long and complicated procedure) I then pressure test the
boiler for at least 24 hours to make sure that gasket is working
as it should.

Only then do I put it back into the frame.
The brew boiler after testing going back in.
Boiler mounts again. No idea what possessed me to do this to the boiler mounts.  I
thought it looked fancy and a little bit different!
Boiler mounts after.
Inside the top fascia panel was all grubby and dusty. Usually it is rather dirty inside the top panel but the fan on the
AV models makes it just that bit worse.
Inside the top fascia panel.
Top of the fascia panel - those are scratches. The top panel (above the fascia switches) is usually the 2nd
worst panel on the machine in terms of damage.  The worst is
always the panel with the sight glass as it gets banged by the
portafilters and scartched by the steam valve when people
push it in too far.
After polishing the right side. This took about 20 mins.
Total time taken was 4 days 13-16 Dec 2004

New parts - all new gaskets, new p-stat and contactor switch,
new cooling fan, new 1.8bar safety valve, new group diffusor
screens x 2 and 2 new white steam bezel inserts.
Completed machine.
